In this world as I see it now
There is darkness,
So much pain, fear
And justifiable anger
And there is also light,
Seeping between the sensational headlines,
Weaving through the hateful words spewed across the aisle,
Lights in the cracks of institutional walls
Crumbing under our own weight
There is light if I choose to see it
There is light if I choose to be it
If I don’t succumb to collective fear
But instead rise up in solidarity,
In truth and power for my fellow beings
Letting my light seep through the cracks,
Crumble the walls,
Create a barrier for hate,
Offer a healing salve for all who hurt
Let the light in
Let the light in
